Right now Ukraine joining any treaty is motivated by 2 things. Safety and rebuilding the country. The EU can only provide one of them. Ukraine joining NATO or getting hard guarantees by NATO including boots on the ground is much more solid than anything the EU could do. Rebuilding doesn’t necessarily needs UA to join EU immediately.
I am against any new members until the EU gets rid of the ability for a single country to block a decision. Until that’s abolished, any new joiner just impairs our ability to, well, do anything.

From an economic point of view, it would probably mean trouble for the EU. Russia wants it because it’s got a lot of geographical value, but the they’re absolutely going to let the country die out if they finally conquer it.
Letting them into the EU means compromising to injecting a lot of money to help them improve their economy.
If Ukraine wants to improve they should probably look into what the Polish did in the late 80s and 90s. They westernized their economy and cleaned out the corruption from the inside out, not the other way out.

If Russia and Ukraine both agree to a diplomatic end to the war, there is absolutely no way Russia would accept a treaty that doesn’t involve Ukraine being forbidden from joining the EU, because let’s not forget that it is also a defensive alliance (article 42 paragraph 7).
If Russia wins, then of course they won’t be able to.

Ukraine needs to get rid of corruption and improve its economy and rule of law before joining the EU. Otherwise, it could harm EU more than it would help Ukraine
