Benjamin Šeško previews Slovenia’s Nations League clash with Austria, focusing on team success and brushing off his goal-scoring rivalry with Cristiano Ronaldo.
Slovenia is gearing up for a crucial Nations League encounter against Austria in Vienna tomorrow. Speaking ahead of the match, Benjamin Šeško, the young striker for RB Leipzig, acknowledged the strength of their opponents but emphasized the team’s focus on delivering a strong performance after their recent setback.
“We know tomorrow’s match will be tough. Austria is a quality side, from their goalkeeper to their strikers—they’re incredibly well-organized. We all know what to expect, but it’s up to us to respond and show what we can do,” Šeško said.
Slovenia is coming off a 4-1 loss to Norway, a game in which Šeško scored their only goal. Despite the heavy defeat, the 20-year-old believes the team has moved on:
“Losing is never a good feeling. We all play football to win every game, but there are ups and downs. That match is behind us now; the focus is entirely on Austria. I know we can once again show the Slovenia we’ve displayed not long ago. The loss didn’t shake us.”
Šeško also praised the positive energy in the dressing room, stressing that any issues they’ve faced recently have already been addressed:
Tomorrow we’ll see how everything stands. The team knows what happened, and we know what we need to do to function properly. I don’t think that will be a problem.”
When asked about being tied with Cristiano Ronaldo atop the Nations League scoring charts with five goals each, Šeško brushed off the rivalry:
“Am I following the battle with Cristiano Ronaldo? Not really, to be honest (laughs)! The team always comes first. An individual can’t win a match alone. My only focus is on how we perform as a team and making sure we give our best from the first minute. If I happen to score on top of that, it’ll be even better!”
With Slovenia’s campaign hanging in the balance, Šeško’s focus and optimism will be key as they aim to bounce back and challenge Austria for a positive result.
