It doesn’t make sense to provide UA with figter jets. For several reasons.
First of all, UA cannot wage conventional war againts Russia. They are heavily outnumbered on that, and even a dozens Mig-29A will not change that. Not only would the planes themselfves be not able to hit protected Russian targets, they are also quite easy to get out of action by striking airbases.
Also, some countries mentioned during these discussions don’t make sense. Like Slovakia, yes, we have Mig-29, but modernized Mig-29AS which no UA pilot can operate.
UA doesn’t need tanks, doesn’t neet aicrafts, UA needs modern manpads and antitank weaponry, so they can wage asymetric war againts the russian invader.
So this was all Borrell’s personal little adventure. And the info about the planes reaching Ukraine within an hour was because another top EU official was just musing.
