Has anyone lost a young cat around the Beckton area? Came across him yesterday evening, found him again when he came out of the bushes this morning. I took him to the vet, who said he’s chipped and advised me to let him go where I found him. See attached video.

  1. He was very friendly with me and didn’t look mangy. He seems socialised. I went back and asked the receptionist if they were able to contact the owner/s, to which she replied that because he doesn’t look hurt or dirty, they didn’t have any concerns. My only thought is that the nearest houses would have required him to have either crossed the A13 or a busy road that connects to the A13, and that he might have gotten lost.

I am worried that, because I fed him some cooked chicken this morning and played with him, he’ll linger and not go home. And also I didn’t want to scare him having stuck him in my rucksack but he didn’t seem angry with me after I let him go. For the record, I’m not trying to steal him. Would just like him to find somewhere a bit safer than a busy motorway.

  2. He looks well. Probably just being a cat, that may just be his local haunt.

  3. Take him to a different vet who will contact the owners! What’s the point in having a microchip if they don’t bloody use it?! 😡

  4. I thought the microchip will have a means to contact the owner or whoever got it chipped. If you came across them in a regular setting (like a garden etc) you could potentially tie a easily break away paper collar (like a piece of not laminated paper that will tear if it got caught on things) to ask for owner contact or advise them to not let it roam because it turned up near a busy road etc.

  5. I’m gonna assume that where you found him is near the address that the vet saw on the chip.

  6. You are so sweet for trying to help. Shame on the vet.

  7. What’s wrong with that Vet?

My mum got called by a vet across the country before, because the cat ended up there somehow and they checked the chip.

  8. aww! poor thing. yeah that vet sounds like a idiot. the whole point of the chip is so that vets can contact the owners to return a lost pet.

  9. I don’t doubt it’s the vet at pets at home, they can be nasty people, try post on Facebook aswell and take to another vet so they’d contact the owner, poor cat, I wouldn’t put him back, I know the area it’s not safe

  10. Hi. I live in the Beckton area and we lost a cat a few years ago who looked like this. Are you sure it was a boy? Where is it now?

  11. Vet is indeed, a moron. Vets have chip readers, that identify the cat and the registered owner with address and tel. no. That is the whole point of microchipping.

  12. Guessing the vet can’t tell you the address for GDPR reasons but they’re dropping a hint that it’s safe to assume he doesn’t live far from where you found him.

  13. Honestly I’ve heard multiple stories now of vets finding a microchip but refusing to contact the owners. What’s the point of getting the microchip then!
