  10. Hezbollah military commander Salim Ayash, convicted of killing former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri, was killed yesterday in an attack in al-Qusayr, Syria, Saudi Arabia's Al Arabiya TV channel reported.

    The US had offered a $10 million bounty on his head.

    According to the Americans, Ayash was a high-ranking commander in Hezbollah's Unit 151, known as the "killing squad" of the terrorist organization. The unit received direct orders from the assassinated Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah. Washington believed that Ayash was also involved in attempted attacks on US troops.

    Ayash was sentenced to life imprisonment by a UN tribunal for the murder of Hariri, but Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah refused to extradite him and four other convicts.
