  1. > “Whenever I’m flicking the channels at home after a few drinks, and this comes up, I just think, ‘Why doesn’t my character have any balls?’ ” Grant said in the interview, before taking issue with a particular scene that involved Will and his love interest, Julia Roberts’ character Anna Scott, a movie star.

    > “There’s a scene in this film where she’s in my house and the paps come to the front door and ring the bell, and I think I just let her go past me and open the door, and that’s awful,” he continued.

    > “I’ve never had a girlfriend, or indeed, now wife, who hasn’t said, ‘Why the hell didn’t you stop her? What’s wrong with you?’

    > He added of his character, “And I don’t really have an answer to that. It was how it was written and I think he’s despicable, really.”

  2. Because if the character had balls, the movie would have been 15 minutes long.

  3. The ditzy, clumsy style of the character makes him likable. I don’t want Ryan Gosling from Crazy Stupid Love when I watch Notting Hill, I want Hugh Grant’s soft character.

He’s charismatic in his own way. The way he lets her go and tears at your heart is the point. You can feel the emotional pain.

Anyways, what do I know. I’m a 32 dude. I’m not the target audience.

  4. Rhys Ifans stole the movie anyway. He actually defuses the paparazzi moment. His character balanced out the wimpy Grant character.

  5. And why was I cast to portray a character with no balls?

  6. I have a feeling that the reason had a ” £ ” in front of it

  7. I’m glad he said it. One of my least favorite movies ever. The fact that he takes her back at the end infuriated me when I watched it.

  8. He’s so irredeemably dastardly & devilish as Forge Fitzwilliam in *Honor Among Thieves*!

No rom com stuff, no love story…just him being an entertaining villain with real depth & characterization.

  9. His character was a broken man. A shell of what he was and completely afraid of giving his heart away to have it broken. That’s why he said no to her. His friends made him roll the dice again at the end.

And we only know it lasted a couple of years.

  10. Least favorite romcon. Julia was a bore of a character. Supporting characters lead that film, along with The charm of location.

  11. There’s a hugh grant balls joke here that I’m too tired to put together.

  12. Julia Roberts’s character is such a jerk to Grant for much of the movie.

  13. Needed more action scenes and explosions tbh

Should have got Guy Ritchie to direct

  14. Obviously dude wasn’t meant to have a pair, he’s a meek, nerd get hot chick part.

  15. I admire how much Hugh Grant hates Hugh Grant movies..

  16. Hugh Grant is better when he plays slimy no scruples type characters. He’s had a great run of late and the world is all the better for it

  17. Don’t you have to get your balls removed in order enjoy that movie?

  18. Yeah Julia Roberts’ character is truly awful to him throughout the film and he still chases her down and takes her back
