Campaigners Demand ‘Biden Make a Final Stand’ for Climate Before Trump Takeover

1. It seems like he’s trying to, but people need to realize that Congress, not the president, is more responsible for our long term policies.

   Because Republicans control the Senate and because Congress is incredibly slow, Biden cannot sign any climate bills to law. All he can really do is try to sign executive orders or work with his cabinet to try to change a few things, but unfortunately, most of it can be easily reversed by Trump. Republicans in Congress successfully hindered climate policy for both Obama and Biden.

   In just two months, Republicans will control the President and Executive branch, both chambers of Congress, the Supreme Court, and a majority of state legislatures and governor seats.

   We need to accept the grim reality that US climate policy will be absolutely screwed for at least the next two years. I could spend 30 minutes listing all the damage they will do, from shutting down renewable projects, starting new drilling projects, exiting the Paris climate accords, re-allocating transportation funding away from transit and bike/pedestrian projects to highway expansion, privatizing forests, you name it.

   If you care at all about our future, please get involved in politics. Please vote in every election in the future. Make climate change your #1 issue. Don’t do stupid things like abstain from voting because of Palestine. The Republican party needs to be completely voted away from any majority.
