What did they expect? Ok they did get some additional revenue due to the increase, but that is easily offset by many businesses going bankrupt or cutting personal costs, or decreased revenue.
What would be really interesting to know is if there was a reduction in deficit because of this.
Now they want to go ahead by increasing tax on public transport, there goes our carbon neutrality goal. I already just drive my car as it costs the same as buying public transport tickets – the inconvenience. With my partner, its just cheaper to drive.
Restaurants are already under pressure since Covid as 5 of my favourite places have shut down in the last year. This is going to put the final nail in their coffins.
Who would have imagined that increasing tax rates are not the way to go. Lower taxes on all things but sugar and tobacco and alcohol. Low taxes on corporations.
Liberaalipuolue is really on the right track .Too bad they don’t get enough voters behind them.
The next thing – people switch to using cash to avoid the tax altogether.
What exactly is the economic philosophy of the current government? I thought the PM was a thatcherite who was going to cut taxes and costs across the board?
Seems like the new conservatism is about wrecking economies so that your rich friends can buy everything cheap.
Here is a novel thought maybe politicians should be paid less and have all their benefits removed. Their retirement benefits should also be lowered. That would lower costs and directly increase state coffers.
Their salaries should be the median salary for their relevant counties/states. If they are unable to make the state salaries grow or they decrease they salary should be unchanged. By tying the two together they become directly responsible to ensure economic growth.
No sh*t Sherlock, what did you expect? The more you tighten the belt, the people will spend less and less…
Imagine saying we need to give more to rich so they spend more and we get good tax, instead of helping poor so they can even start to think about getting something else than food.
And grass is green and water wet.
I have hard time believing that even the current government thinks their actions will help as much as they claim. They just make shit up to justify them messing up the system heavily based on socialism, abd also ofc to look good
This just shows how little the current government have of economics. The reason the economy is stalling is that people do not have enough money. We have a number of services, such as electricity providers, who are significantly contributing to inflation; there are no pay rises and keeping a business running, especially small businesses, is getting increasingly difficult due to bureaucracy (trust me on this), ALV and a host of other factors.
So, the government’s idea is to call everyone lazy, and force us to pay more for everything, especially the basics such as transport and food. Which leaves less capital in the economy to keep it running.
Capitalism is based on the free movement of capital, not the hoarding of capital by a few. If there isn’t enough free movement of capital guess what happens.
Part of the issue is that certain people in Finland treat Whalroos’ economic ideas as sacrosanct as Ayn Rand.
A **CUT** in ALV and income tax for lower bands of income is what is required at a minimum.
