‘The incident puts further strain on the relationship between France and Israel’ • FRANCE 24

A tense confrontation occured between Israeli police and two security officials at the French-administered Eleona compound in Jerusalem. The officials were accompanying French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot on a trip to the city. Israeli security forces had been told not to enter the site before Barrot’s visit, but did so, though it remains unclear why, and briefly arrested the French security officials.
