So when do we bring out the guillotines?

  1. What are some of the best ways to reduce petrol usage? Genuine question. Short trips use more fuel than longer ones, so cutting out popping to the shops for just one item is top of my list. It’s usually a late night bar of chocolate, so may help with my waistline.

Does having properly inflated tyres help? Is driving slower or faster more economical? Should I not run the AC and just get a good microfibre cloth for the mist? I’ll still be using my car but going to try use it less and better.

  2. Haha… Dublin Road NAVAN!

    Am I right?

Sister lives up that way and I know that river fencing and red brick wall anywhere!

  3. We could reduce tax on it and I ultimately suspect we will have to, but the big price increase is coming from global issues, and will get way worse thanks to Putin deciding that just as the world recovers from COVID he’s going to cause WWIII.
Not sure where to be angry at this stage – my energy bills are going to be insane.

  4. Man im glad i bought an ev at the start of the pandemic when car prices dropped.

We still have one “ice” car and it fucking hurts to use it. Filling it makes my eyes bulge out.

If it wasnt for the pandemic we would never have been able to get the ev, dont know how we could afford fuel costs like this.

  5. Half of that is duty the government takes. Ignore the tiny carbon tax and focus on the insane amount the government banks per litre just to allow importing of the fuel.

  6. I genuinely don’t know why our fuel prices have risen given we get our supply from the UK which only receives around 15% from Russia. At the start of the pandemic fuel prices were around €1.00 a litre, now they’re set to reach €2.00, and the government is still planning to raise it further – sooner FF/FF/G are out the better.

  7. Fat chance the government considers reducing the tax on it. Tho who knows that if they did whether suppliers would reduce the price accordingly

  8. Why has Ireland not moved to biofuels yet ?
E85 can be made from water sugar and yeast, using natural sugars from waste crops and could only possibly used as compost, and using yeast from one of the companies in Ireland that produces massive amounts of alcohol a year maybe Guinness, teelings or Jameson, not only would it allow us to decrease fuel prices by a lot most cars can run on it with very simple modifications, and can even be made to run on both E85 and petrol using a flex fuel sensor

  9. €105 to fill the car with diesel the other day. Insane.

Price gouging going on too by the garages, there could be 8c in difference and only a few miles apart.

  10. Its almost like Europe should have removed dependence on Russian oil ages ago. Glad that I’ll just be peddling around in my cargo bike. This is absoltely terrible for folks who need to drive and I feel for you all. I suggest that you apply extra pressure on politicians to subsidize the purchase of electrics and to switch to renewables.

  11. These prices are cheap compared to Greece and our minimum wage is only 650 euro! No one’s using their cars rn

  12. If it means we can kill of Europe’s dependence on Russian oil/gas, it’s a price worth paying in the long term.

Better yet a new economic incentive to wean off oil completely.

Hardly much comfort to those struggling financially right now but can’t be much worse than the suffering in Ukraine.

  13. Possible solution!
Get a loan to solar panel your houses and buy a Tesla or and old Prius. Possibly paying off a loan would be cheaper than paying for petrol and electricity! Your solar would run ur car too obviously.
