Together formore environmentally friendly legislation!
Support the EU Citizens’ Initiative “Stop Finning – Stop the Trade” to ban the cruel trade with shark fins which is still taking place on a large scale in the EU.
All you have to do is register your vote online with the European Union commission -> [https://eci.ec.europa.eu/012/public](https://eci.ec.europa.eu/012/public)
Takes less than a minute and you can do it right from your phone. We still need 4.000 votes from Cyprus to reach the minimum target. A trade ban would be a clear sign that the mass extinction of sharks will no longer be accepted.
Sharks belong in the ocean – not in soup!
Done, thanks for sharing.
In a personal anecdote, we can also help reduce the demand by voting with our wallets. About 10 years ago my sister and I went for a meal at “Los Bandidos” Mexican restaurant in Ayia Napa with about 10 friends. We discovered that they had shark fin soup on the menu. Most of us were divers so we complained to the management and walked out. We then wrote a letter signed by all the dive schools in the area to the owner of the restaurant demanding the soup was removed. Amazingly, they complied. I know it’s not much, but it still felt like a small victory!
Right, I appreciate this move and it’s really important but you can’t pretend to care about the environment and aquatic life when you eat fish. Destructive fishing practices result in the killing of up to 100 million sharks every year and are in large part responsible for the 70% decline in shark populations globally over the past 50 years.
