It's so hypocritical. I have a friend who works for those conferences and she openly posts her private jet trips, fancy hotels, museums and restaurants she's visiting with cop29 and barely anything from the actual conference….

I see you are Lebanese and born in 96 so i think i know the person who made you go on this rant 😅
I unfollowed her long time ago.
And yes it is all a big load of BS. They make you drink in paper straws while conference visitors produce more greenhouse gases in one week of conference and waste so much tax payer money than you do in years. Such is the state of the world.
In case you didn’t notice, they are conferences between businessmen who buy and sell petrol. The whole concept of cop being about protecting climate is a huge joke.
You should get a new friend
Hypocrite’s every last one
There are ways to offset emissions.
To answer that we need to talk about cognitive dissonance
Does extinction rebellion protest there?
Because they are taking the piss duh.
First, let me say I agree with you, 100%.
It’s VERY frustrating seeing all the private jets flying around. With the only justification being “well, I have enough money to pay for them, so why shouldn’t I?”
The small caveat I have here, is that this reminds me of attempts to discredit people like Al Gore, or other people who try to fight for climate change, by attacking their character or personal actions.
Whether some executive flies a jet or not really makes very little difference. We need massive, global, governmental and societal changes to fix global warming.
We should focus on what they DO while they are there (or DON’T do) more than we should about how they got there.
Again, I HATE all the private jet usage, and it’s awful. But attacking people for private jet usage feels too close to the attacks that conservatives use when they want to distract us. “Don’t listen to Al Gore, he used a private jet!” Or maybe even “don’t use windmills, some birds die!”
The goal is to distract us from the core issue, and attack individuals, so we don’t demand actual action from those individuals when they are at conferences like that.
Props to Carbon Jacked for doing it the right way.
the hypocrisy displayed by these officials largely mirrors the attitude from the general public. i live in a walkable neighborhood and my neighbors drive literally everywhere. one of them drove 600 meters to a house in the same neighborhood.
none of this is surprising.
Everyone flies to COP 29 in private jets because they got rich using Climate Change to buy the private jets.
