This government is composed of actual authoritarian extremists, and the scariest thing is that they’re normalizing what they’re attempting to do with bills like this. Patel tried to slip in an amendment to the policing bill that would give the state the power to ban people from protesting for years even if they haven’t committed a crime and there were people on here instinctively defending it as if that’s not an insane proposal.
But rather than discussing the extreme parts of these various bills and the serious issues that will be caused by the various powers they’re giving themselves and the various rights they’re taking away from people I anticipate that the comments here will devolve into people arguing about the use of the word “fascism” specifically to describe the direction the Tories are taking the country.
I’d read the article, but I highly doubt that that “thecanary.co” has reasonable and agreeable definition of “Fascism”.
