ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – If it is true that we all have a calling, creating art is Emma Gilbert’s.
“I have always felt like I needed to create art. I have never felt like it was a choice. So why art? It is because I have to make art. I don’t know any other way,” said Gilbert.
Gilbert is from Alabama and was brought into the city by the folks from the Outer Space project. The project started 10 years ago. They are bringing in artists from across the community and beyond to come and leave their mark on the City of Atlanta.
“We try and paint murals that maybe at times, are hidden or in neighborhoods you might not visit. So it is an opportunity for people to get out an explore,” said artist Greg Mike with ABV Gallery.
“I am trying to get all of this done today which may or may not happen, and then tomorrow, the goal is to get the entire clock,” said Gilbert.
Gilbert has a vision for her piece. A vision she is working to bring to life little by little. A vision she has to bring to life in a matter of days.
“Recently, I have been feeling like time is just passing us by and I can’t catch up. At the end of the day, I realized another day has passed and it just feels like time is speeding up. So there is a girl, she is on the phone, and there is a clock behind her and the clock is breaking away,” said Gilbert.
In case you don’t know about the power of murals, not everyone can afford to go to an art museum, be inspired and uplifted and challenged or to travel. So they get their art along the same streets where they walk to work or the grocery store. That is the power of murals. And the power of art? Well, it can take you anywhere.
