Roman Abramovich confirms he will sell Chelsea – with all ‘net proceeds’ to benefit victims of Ukraine war

  1. ‘Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has said all “net proceeds” from his sale of the club will go to a foundation benefiting “all victims of the war in Ukraine”.

The Russian billionaire, who took over in 2003, said in a statement it was in “the best interest” of the Premier League giants to sell up.’

  2. Fair play no?

If it’s true then surely we have to respect the man for that.

I would like to think that even if he was dodgy in the past, his years living in the UK have had a positive effect on the man. And he knows right from wrong in this situation.

Fair play I say. But reserve the right to be corrected.

  3. Sounds like he is trying to cash in on his UK assets before Boris gets around to doing something. Wrap it up in a nice bow and get his PR hirelings to dress it up as charity for poor Ukraine. 5 years later the Ukrainian people will be still waiting for the cash following his deductions. Now he could be genuine but considering the company he keeps and the rate he spends money. He needs money fast before the EU or USA start seizing assets

  4. > with all ‘net proceeds’ to benefit victims of Ukraine war

“I am a victim of the war in Ukraine because they have forced me to sell the club.”

  5. Because there are people calling for him to be sanctioned so he’s doing whatever he can to protect his wealth and image.

And people are eating it up lol.

  6. So many dummies in here, jeeeeeeesus.

Since when do the mega rich ever do anything out of the goodness of their hearts? You’re all like sheep to the slaughter.

He’s trying to claw some money back before he loses everything when the bumbling tories finally strip these oligarchs of all UK assets.

If anything it’s an ill omen, shows that Putin isn’t gonna be slowing down anytime soon.

  7. Good news. Hopefully it won’t save Ambramovich from the consequences of his actions.
And this is just the beginning of getting Russian money out of London in particular.
Oh and it’d be nice if the mods clamped down on the dozens of Russian shill accounts instead of moderating those who point them out.

  8. Yeah, read a bit deeper before you start thinking Roman is a great guy. TLDR, he’s covering his ass. He’s about to be slapped with sanctions. Very soon he won’t be ABLE to sell Chelsea. Or his 4 yachts. Or jack shit. Maybe he’ll sell shirts in the club shop. But probably not.

As for his debt forgiveness, he’ll take his share from the sale, and won’t be out of pocket. The money dedicated to charity comes from the net amount too.

Make no mistake; this is a fire sale move. Sell quick before you can’t or someone notices the wheels are about to fall off the wagon.

None of this is illegal, or necessarily wrong, but trying to market it as Roman of the people is bullshit. He’s trying to drum up interest in the asset he’s about to be not able to sell.

  9. He also said he won’t ask for any loans to be repaid which, when you consider he’s ‘loaned’ Chelsea £1.5 Billion, is pretty decent no matter what you might think of him.

  10. If he is truly coming out against Putin, he better hope Putin does not come back to get him after this is all over. Putin makes it very clear that oligarchs need to tread a fine line and he does not take kindly to opposition or being called out. Abramovich will take his money and bring it closer to the Kremlin than he will the Ukrainian refugees Putin has created.

  11. I don’t really understand how his assets should be ceased…what did he do? What about Saudis who have been bombing Yemen…should they be worried?

  12. “NET PROCEEDS” , There will be no net proceeds. He will expense all those Pounds right into his pocket. How stupid will the UK chose to be?

  13. Seize the club and his properties now. He is in the process of liquidating his assets.

The assets of that club and his properties should be returned to the people of Russia after Putin and his ilk are removed. It’s all stolen from them.

  14. Fuck this, the net profits, how much does the club owe him? I’ve read at least 1.5b, he’ll be lucky to get anything above that so the net profits will be fuck all. He’s walking away with 1.5 to 2b in his pocket and his mates in the Tory party are letting him get away with it. Why has he not been put on the list of oligarchs being sanctioned?? Because his friend Boris is giving him time to cash in his assets and get out of dodge, this country needs to wake the fuck up.

  15. He never stated Ukrainian victims, only victims of the war in Ukraine, would be helped. Careful wording, could quite possibly be given to Russian combat casualties.
    Really hope I’m wrong.

  16. They key word here is ‘net’ proceeds

Even an average accountant could come up with many ways of ensuring the net proceeds equal the square root of zero

  17. Clever way of ensuring a good selling price because people will see his need to sell quick as an opportunity to get a cheap deal, but he’s basically saying if you don’t pay me what I laid out on them plus a bit more then you don’t care. Excellent plan

  18. Why let him sell it, and give away the net proceeds, when we can seize it from him, tell him to ask Putin for his loans back, and give away the gross proceeds?

  19. it would be a disgrace by the united kingdom to allow this thug to walk away with proceeds of his assets back to putin to fund his war. youre all fucking deluded if you think this guy wants the money to help ukranians.

  20. Thoughts and prayers with Tommeh Robinson who deposited a large amount of cash in Russian banks to try and keep it away from his bankruptcy creditors

  21. If he’s writing off his loans, isn’t that a huge amount of Chelsea’s debt? He bought the club for £140m, it’s now worth billions. So either he’s about to donate something like £2bn to war victims, or there is an accounting angle here I don’t understand. And I’m certain that he’s not about to donate something like £2bn to Ukraine.

  22. That’s such a Tory attitude. Placate with big words and phrases then end up quietly lining your pockets and been a cunt.

  23. Just take it from him, then sell it for £2b giving all of it to Ukraine. Instead of his token gesture where he pockets most of it.

  24. Pity the Saudis didn’t wait a bit longer, they could have bought an already tainted club instead of Newcastle
