“Feels like 1C” standard weather

  1. I’m obsessed with checking the “feels like” temperature. The other day we had “feels like -8” so I went out in full winter gear, and it was amazing looking around at all the under-dressed people freezing their balls off.

  2. I only realised weirdly recently that the actual base temperature recorded really isn’t *that* significant to how cold it feels. How cold it actually feels is more down to the air humidity, solar exposure and wind conditions.

If it’s baseline 24°C but very windy – it’s going to be cold. Natural wind is always colder than the surrounding climate. You’re not going to feel warm when being constantly blasted by the cool air influx.

If it’s baseline 6°C but it’s a sunny day with basically no wind, it won’t actually feel as cold as 6°C.

Humidity doesn’t really change that much across the annum. Britain is humid (or at least, where I am is).

  3. Here in Aberdeen it’s currently 5 degrees, “feels like -9”
