Hey! I’m trying to register with the job center and it is asking me to verify myself online.

I only have a regular Personalausweis. What is this Ausweisfunktion? Where do I get it?

Also, I could use an eID-Karte. But I don’t have one. Where do I get this eID-Karte?

I’ve tried reading all the links below but they all assume you already have an eID? No idea what to do. Can someone advise?

  1. Your Personalausweis* already has the online functionality. When you got it, you got a letter including the pin to use this functionality (unless you declined that you want the online function).
    If you don’t have the pin, you’ll need to ask for a new one (online? At your Gemeinde?). And if you didn’t activate the online function when you applied for a Personalausweis, you’ll need to activate it now.

    If you have your Personalausweis and the pin, you need the App and a phone with NFC. Then the app should guide you through the process (afaik, never tried since the function didn’t have any useful applications yet :D)

    you can activate it, if you got your ID AFTER 01.11.2017, because the chip is on the card, but not activated. You can activate the deactivated ID in the “Bürgerbüro” of the town your adress is in (where you went in the first place to get this ID). But i dont know how long you have to wait. Otherwise, you need a new ID – card.

    So, i think you need an appointment with the Arbeitsamt to prove your identity.
