Huge €5 billion ‘black hole’ uncovered in Fine Gael’s manifesto spending plan

  1. Fine Gael are having a nightmare campaign and momentum is hugely against them now. It all started with an incredibly lazy and unambitious manifesto.

Simon Harris has shown he is not fit to be a leader of this country. The video of him showing a complete lack of respect and empathy towards that disability carer will do huge damage with the average voter and his absolute petulance during that RTE debate did not go down well either.

  2. Look at the ~~fiscally responsible~~ Magic Money tree now. You don’t need to carefully cost your promises if you don’t plan on keeping them.

*It shows that the party has not allocated enough money to cover its new spending commitments as well as what is estimated to be needed to maintain the existing level of services.*

*The discovery is an uncomfortable one for the government party, which puts responsible management of the public finances at the centre of its pitch to voters.*

*“Fine Gael’s figures are sound,” a spokesperson for the party said on Saturday night.*

*The ‘black hole’ is in the party’s plan for current – or day-to-day – voted expenditure between now and 2030.*

*“This simply isn’t credible. We have an independent Fiscal Advisory Council who have clearly and transparently calculated the cost of maintaining the existing level of services. Instead Fine Gael choose to use a figure based on their own – unpublished – workings that is more than €5 billion per year lower.”*

  3. If you’re not telling him he’s the tic toc man he doesn’t want to know, shallow fucker

  4. Simon harris has a lot of schooling to do between now and the debate that’s on Tuesday, or he’ll just be terrible again & apologise online the next day.

  5. >The research also found significant – albeit smaller – gaps in Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin’s spending plans.
    >
    >Roantree notes that both parties have pencilled in €20 billion per year by 2030 for maintaining existing services, which is significantly less – €2.5 billion per year – than what the IFAC has said will be needed.

Why are our three biggest parties so utterly useless? It’s a sad state of affairs when I’ll be disappointed with whichever of them ends up in government.

  6. Just to be clear, Simon Harris didn’t sign off on it, it was his minister for finance that did just so you’re aware.

  7. 🎶 I like your manifesto, put it to the test…..oh 🎶

  8. I think we should explore Simon Harris’s hole further.

  9. Like they seem to be a shit show at the moment, but I just know they’ll get voted back in 😓

  10. Maybe I’m a simpleton but I dont see a point in voting for anyone but SF if you really want change. All other parties will join the club if called upon, as will independents.
Only a SF majority will change the status quo.
Btw, I’m not a fan of SF.

  11. This is crap form from FG but as the article says SF and FF have holes in their plans as well. Every party promises stuff that can’t be delivered but if FG are saying they are the responsible party it is a worse look for them.

But to be honest I am not sure how anyone can believe these election ‘promises’, I remember seeing a UK journalist who went through the UK parties for manifesto for decades, none even came close to getting half of it if I remember.

I am finding a bit of irony in FF and SF being more fiscally responsible parties with their manifestos.

  12. It’s kind of crazy how bad FGs optics have been the last 2 weeks, but it’s not going to matter, they and Harris will be in power again. No matter how much this sub would have you belive they wont.

It’s kind of a depressing thought that it dont really matter how bad their campaign is, since theres not much else on offer (I wont vote for FG of course but I’m talking about the general public’s feelings on it)

Or maybe it’s good the campaign and media circus stuff dont really effect much, after seeing the yanks and their clown show campaign and election play out, maybe it’s a godsend we are nothing alike it.

Dunno, either way it’s a bit sombering

  13. And they’ll still end up in power. Nothing changes.
