I only moved to London 6 months ago from up North, and I have only been do Shoreditch a few times. This is the road between Shoreditch and Liverpool Street station (I was walking to meet my friend) I spotted this pole with lots of cameras and shoes and wonder if anyone could tell me what and why it is.

  1. It’s where people have been stabbed… their trainers get thrown up so they are not forgotten 👍

  2. I’m pretty sure you have stupid people up north as well 😉

  3. At this moment #1 comment is drug den, #2 comment is art installation. I love how far we have come.

  4. It’s just a bog-standard shoe pole. But for some reason the local hipsters have put cameras on it. Probably some kind of political statement about ‘surveillance society’.

  5. During the 80s heroin epidemic shoes hanging from phone poles (the wires traditionally) were a signifier that you could get smack nearby.

This got reinterpreted later to be some sort of goof and now, who knows… Probably nothing. 🤷😄

  6. Shoes hung like that means that you can buy drugs in the surroundings.

  7. Did the cameras at least catch the people who put them there?
