The reality of it is that Russia only respects strength. The reason it cannot allow Ukraine into NATO is that it would, in the future, be unable to plunder and steal from Ukraine if it were part of the alliance.
That said, Ukraine’s continued modernization will mean that any military encounter Russia has with Ukraine will end up with Russia having a very bloody nose, regardless of NATO membership.
Ukraine already has security guarantees. What else to negotiate about?
