3 Royal Navy OPVs designed for fishery protection

  1. I am gonna assume they are equipped with loud speakers and French speakers, what else can they do lmao!

  2. before the Rivers were the 2 Castle Class OPV but 4 more were suppose to built but got cancelled and the first British OPV was the 7
    Island Class OPVs.

Before that the Royal Navy used Destroyers and Frigates for fisheries protection

  3. I guess people forget Fisheries Protection is the job of the Royal Navy not a civilian Coastguard like in Europe

  4. And thus The Fourth Cod War has started.

I mean how many cod wars can UK lose? It can’t be more than 3, can it?

  5. When I said that Iceland wanted the US to bombs on uk warships in Cod Wars

that was not a joke they did actually as ‘According to Frederick Irving, US ambassador to Iceland at the time, Icelandic Prime Minister Ólafur Jóhannesson demanded that the US to send jets to bomb the British frigates’

  6. They couldn’t beat Iceland, are they so foolish as to challenge France? British nationalism never disappoints…

  7. an OPV is arguably better than a

    * Battle Class Destroyer
    * Type 12 aka Whitby Class ASW Frigate
    * Type 12I aka Leander Class ASW Frigate
    * Type 12M aka Rothesay Class ASW Frigate
    * Type 14 aka Blackwood Class ASW Frigate
    * Type 41 aka Leopard Class AAW Frigate
    * Type 61 aka Salisbury Class AAW Frigate
    * Type 81 aka Tribal Class GP Frigate

    For fishing protection

Seriously these were the Cod Wars

At the time the RN Fisheries protection was the job of 4 Frigates probably the Type 81s I’d expect

In Cod War no.3 the Royal Navy sent this to face Iceland

2 Type 81 GP Frigate: Gurkha & Tartar

1 Type 61 AAW Frigate: Salisbury

1 Type 41 AAW Frigate: Leopard

3 Type 14 ASW Frigate: Dundas & Exmouth & Lowesoft

3 Type 12M ASW Frigate: Brighton & Falmouth & Yarmouth

2 Type 12I Class Batch 3B ASW Frigate: Andromeda & Scyilla

    3 Type 12I Batch 3A ASW Frigate: Bacchante & Achilles & Diomede

1 Type 12I Class Batch 2 ASW Frigate: Juno

3 Type 12I Class Batch 1 ASW Frigate: Leander & Galatea & Naiad

1 Type 12 ASW Frigate: Eastbourne

1 Type 41/61 Class Frigate: Mermaid

so 2 AAW Frigates, 2 GP Frigates, 16 ASW Frigates and 1 Hybrid T41/T61 Frigate seem unsuitable

the Hybrid T41/T61 Frigate was built for Ghana’s Navy to serve as Flagship and presidential yacht to Ghanaian President Kwame Nkrumah but taken up by the RN after Ghanaian President Kwame Nkrumah got deposed in 1966

  8. It was not so LONG AGO just 100 years that Britain was the masters of the sea. Now they got some old rusty boats. A country in free fall

  9. *”Jean-Marc Puissesseau, president and chairman of the ports of Calais and Boulogne-sur-Mer, told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme that the dispute concerned only about 40 boats, “a drop of water in an ocean”.*

*He said these boats had been unable to prove their history of fishing in British waters, as the UK required, either because they had been unable to take part in a monitoring survey or because the fisherman had replaced their boats with newer models.*

*He said if sanctions were imposed by France, “it will be terrible for both sides of the Channel, for you, for us, for the ports, for the fishermen in your country, for the fishermen in our country – and that’s only for 40 little boats that are not allowed to fish in your country”.*

  10. Honestly so pathetic from both sides that this is necessary. Fish industry is so fucking unimportant, this is nothing more than nationalistic chest pumping

  11. In this thread: sabre rattling Brexit voters drunkenly singing Britannia Rules the Waves.

All I can say is best of luck to you lads. The flagging post-Brexit economy is clearly relying on the tiny contribution of a handful of fishing boats to prop itself up. Also the Queen is on her last legs and there aren’t enough turkeys for Christmas so things aren’t looking great.
