Nice to see people jailed for speaking out against corruption. Really adds to the post-democratic flavour this country has had for the last few years.

I think whistleblowers should be protected for the act of blowing. But it shouldn’t be a ‘get out of jail free card’. Admitting to a crime before you’re caught doesn’t absolve you from responsibility. BUT it should absolutely be considered at sentencing. Which is a generally accepted aspect of the legal system. So this to me is normal.
No senior banker or board member faced jail for their role in the financial crisis, junior bankers were instead offered as tribute. It’s why no lessons have been learned from 2008, except maybe to hide what they are doing better. We will see the same at the next crisis and so on.
