Trump’s tariffs will be paid by the exporter and not the consumer

  1. And those corporations will pass on the added costs through the supply chain to the consumers. With every middleman tacking their normal profits onto the added costs.

Republicans used to preach this for decades.

  2. So some of these companies will just ship products to USA at a loss? Just like from the goodness of their hears?

  3. Pretty sure it’s legal to backhand maga at this point when they begin to speak.

  4. So, like…completely unrelated note… Mexico’s definitely paid for the wall, right?

  5. Even if we take this seriously. How does *increasing* the cost of goods sold or services provided at any point in the selling process result in a *decrease* in sales price at the consumer/service point?

  6. The trickle down party confidently declaring that trickle down is not real

  7. Let’s be clear a tariff is a tax. Whether the shipper pays it and adds it to the cost or the importer pays it and adds it to the cost. Somebody pays it and passes it on. Traditionally the importer pays it as they made the decision to buy from XYZ overseas. Trump voters are stupid.

  8. Trump has been in business long enough to know that a supplier will pass on the costs to the buyer. And history will show that a tariff will not create jobs per se, but it will allow domestic suppliers to raise their prices. This, the consumer pays more with no relation to the source.

He knows this but his followers do not.

  9. Why the fuck wouldn’t I pass the extra costs on to the buyer? Tariffs and taxes are part of the overall expense related to the cost of doing business.

  10. Companies are already going to be importing more inventory to get ahead of the tariffs. When the tarrifs hit, those companies will still raise prices even though their costs didn’t go up on the inventory they got early.

  11. Almost right, only ‘ex’ must be replaced by ‘im’ and ‘not’ must be replaced by ‘thus the’.

  12. And moneys will fly out of my ass and carry me to heaven.

  13. “Oh no, the importer will pay the tariffs but won’t raise the price, and eat the profit loss out of the goodness of their heart cause free market capitalism”

  14. Everythi9ng is going to be so fucked if he actually imposes these tariffs. I would be one thing if we had the manufacturing to make this shit in the USA but we don’t and won’t. Middle class America will no longer exist

  15. Trickle down economics. All the added fees trickle down to the consumer.

  16. Hurts my brain,,and any Repub who thinks tariffs are good, chances are they don’t know or do know how they work.

It’s a great way to screw the end user which Repubs love doing.

  17. Even if it were paid by the exporter, they’ll just raise their price to compensate.

  18. I can’t even argue anymore with these fucking idiots

  19. I can’t wait for all those factory jobs to come back to the US! I am sure everyone will be lining up to make minimum wage on an assembly line, while also paying more for everything they purchase.

  20. I’m more mad that when the tariffs kick in and the price of everything spikes, conservatives will blame it on the dems, deep state, immigrants, Obama, Hillary’s emails, Hunter Biden’s laptop, BLM, etc. Basically everything except god-emperor Trump.

  21. He may not drink …. But,, Fuck He’s Higher than
    A Fuckin kite!

  22. And Trump followers believe that the exporters will eat the cost? Their shareholders will understand and accept that their earnings will go down, losing them money? I hope people, after watching how profits for companies and shareholders have risen since the COVID outbreak while the people pay more for less, are smarter than that, but I know most are not

  23. Of course he doesn’t know how tariffs work, he’s useless as anything other than a dog whistle for bigoted billionaires. Just like “Mexico is going to build the wall”, exporters and retailers are now just going to magically pay tariffs with neither passing the added cost to the consumers… sure.

If you believe that, I have a monorail to sell you. Just ask North Haverbrook, it was yuge.

  24. Yes, because corporations are in the business of losing money.

  25. Bankrupt. Morally, financially, intellectually, just not yet politically bankrupt. All he’s got are the fools that flutter between the diminishing specks of light in his shadow.

  26. I worked in a company that was impacted by raise of tariff in the first Trump admin. The first thing we need was raising the retail price. The second thing we did was moving factory to another developing country.

  27. Even Trump knows this isn’t true. He is trying to force company’s to return to the US to make their products here. This won’t happen. They don’t about raising the prices for consumers. They are going to call Trumps bluff.

  28. It doesn’t matter what the orange god does. Reps will blame depression/ recession to macro economic conditions that you with the simple mind cannot understand.

Do you not remember what Fox News did during COVID? It’s either Trump joking of Trump is playing 4D chess that you simpletons won’t understand.

We are going to go into a recession, save that cash and buy up those meme and good stocks when the economy tanks.

  29. The exporter is in a foreign country somewhere. The importer inside the US pays the tariffs which increases the prices of the goods.

  30. Look up the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930. Historians and economists agree that placing tariffs on 20,000 imported goods helped drive the United States deeper into the Great Depression.

If you think the Great Recession of 2008 was bad, wait till you see what tariffs on all imported goods does to a consumer economy where most consumed goods are imported.

My sense of schadenfreude takes some small solice in the likelihood that Trump’s desired policies may turn some one percenters into paupers.

We’ve done this before, folks. Buckle up. It’s going to be a bumpy ride.
