WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – While the gun-deer season may have opened this weekend, so did another traditional experience for many families across the central Wisconsin area… Christmas tree farms.
Dan Rogalla has been planting trees on the land of what is now known as the Rogalla Choose and Cut Tree Farm since 1976. It first started when Rogalla was working at a different tree farm back then.
“It just evolved from there (and) got to the point where there was enough trees here for people to come out. It’s an evolution to where we’re at today,” Rogalla said.
Now Rogalla helps bring the Christmas spirit to families all over.
“We do this kind of every year… We go to the same one, kind of like a tradition,” nine-year old Valarie Weinand, a shopper at the farm, said.
Valarie and her sister Viviane say they try to make it out to Rogalla’s before Thanksgiving every year to find the perfect tree but they each have a different idea of what that is.
“I like tall fuzzy ones that aren’t like super sharp ‘cause if you were to run around the house or something, and you run into it, it doesn’t end well,” Viviane said.
As for her sister, she disagrees as little siblings like to do.
“I like tall pokey ones ‘cause then you get a lot of spikes,” Valarie said.
Rogalla’s is open every weekend until Christmas from 9 a.m. until dusk. Shoppers can cut your own tree, or they can get help if need be.
