As an American I say, Look to the US to see how holding onto cities full of people that hate you works out.
Russia will eventually conquer Ukraine, and experience non stop insurgency till Russia leaves.
Winning a city is one thing, but they will have to use considerable amount of their forces to keep this city. Russia is already using 82% of their allocated powers on this war, and they are no where near controlling Ukraine.
