Without giving an opinion either way, is it usual in Croatia for the president to comment on matters that would be the preserve of government, when that would seem to be the domain of a PM?
They are correct. Croatia has a lot of private debts taken in Euro, so devaluation of local currency means a lot of bankruptcies. The only way to be completely secured from that is to join Eurozone.
Joining Eurozone would be a topic for discussion in Croatia if it was forbidden in the first place to take Euro debts for private people in the country.
