  1. >Russian President Vladimir Putin has denied that Russia has exchanged “butter for guns,” as the country’s leadership has deflected blame for price rises onto “unfriendly” countries.

    >CCTV footage from the store, Dairy Place, in early November appears to show the door being smashed and one person rushing over to empty the cash register. The other person makes a beeline for the fridge, plundering 20kg of butter from the chiller, Russian media reported.

    >The owner of the store said on Telegram that the heist showed butter was now like “gold,” according to a Google translation. CNBC could not independently verify the footage.

Ghee, wonder if this will be a churning point for the Russian people

  2. Ahhh, a headline that can be adapted to America soon enough. Ugh.

  3. same thing as here in iran, prices are sky rockets, every car prices casually increased by 30% two days ago but as soon as we blame the supreme leader for insane aggression toward the rest of the world then best case it’s 6 years jail and worst case it’s to get executed

  4. Better to be alive and hungry than thrown out a window I guess. Not for long, of course, the end’s the same.

  5. spirit of people is killed first for implementing fascism.

  6. But Tucker Carlson showed me that Russian supermarkets were as good as as ALDI in the UK, why would Tucker lie to us?

  7. While it might be true, is it not going into winter season over there? Where food prices would normally, naturally, go up anyway?

  8. I wonder what will be the breaking point for the St.Petersburg / Moscow civilians.

  9. The price that ordinary Russian are paying for Putin’s imperial power tripping continues to rise. Lives lost, peace of mind gone, economy going steadily downhill. I suspect most Russians already know that this has been failed campaign that will only bring more misery for many years to come.

  10. Oppose the regime at the cost of being murdered… It’s a hard decision opposing a tyrannical government.

  11. From a more official point of view, even their treasury’s own official interest rates are currently at 21%, which are expected to be hiked to 25% by the end of the year.

  12. Butter is sold open shelf for reasonable price in Russian supermarkets. I have photo proof from Moscow few days ago

  13. “but no one dares blame Putin and the war”

Correction. No one IN RUSSIA dares blame Putin and the war.

I blame Putin and the war, and i bet 99% of the reddit community. What is Putin going to do? Personally come over here and throw all of us out from tall buildings?

  14. Seen a tiktok about the prices. They have to pay 22 euro cents (converted) for just one single baguette.

  15. If you blame Putin you will probably fall out a window.

  16. And this is why Putin thinks he can win out in a battle of attrition with the West. His people will put up with most anything while people in the West will completely abandon Ukraine if it’s inconvenient as it is right now.

  17. Prices aren’t rising….. every December there is a small price hike, a few rubles (Pennies) butter is high, yes, but who cares cuz Russians don’t use half a stick in everything they make.

  18. Not unless they believe that they can actually fly,in any case.

  19. So the war clock is also ticking for Russia. It’s not just Ukraine that is suffering. All sides are motivated to not have this drag on interminably.

  20. The guy in the article doesn’t mention anything except butter which has only gone up in price by 20 cents. And so food prices are really rising, but this happens every year before winter in any country where there is a normal winter.

As for the central bank rate, it grew last year to 22% and fell to 7%, this is the norm for the Russian economy, this is how the flow of money is controlled
