Press Release

The following is a machine translation of a Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Energy release

Within the framework of international cooperation, authorities from the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Energy met with a multidisciplinary team from German cooperation to advance in the construction of a strategic plan of technical assistance aimed at strengthening the energy transition in Bolivia.

The plan, which consists of five key components, aims primarily to generate the technical, financial and organisational conditions necessary to increase the use of renewable energy, promote electrical efficiency, encourage electric mobility and ensure gender inclusion in the energy sector.

The components of the strategic plan are: integration of renewable energies into the National Interconnected System (SIN) and/or isolated systems; distributed generation as a decentralized alternative for energy production; energy efficiency in public and productive sectors, contributing to savings and rational use of energy; electric mobility, promoting the transition towards sustainable means of transport; and, finally, a gender perspective, promoting inclusion and equity in the electrical sector.

These actions are part of the Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), which establishes the climate commitments assumed by Bolivia under the Paris Agreement.

The Paris Agreement, adopted in 2015 and in force since 2016, is a legally binding international treaty that seeks to limit global warming to less than 2°C, with an ideal of 1.5°C compared to pre-industrial levels. This agreement brings together 196 countries in the fight against climate change, committing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve climate neutrality by mid-century.

The joint work between Bolivia and Germany in the energy sector reinforces this global commitment, aligning local actions with international goals to address the challenges of climate change and ensure long-term sustainable development.
