  1. Haaretz is where I first learned that Netanyahu propped up Hamas and described them as ‘an asset’ to his colleagues. It really seems like Israel has never wanted peace with the Palestinians

  2. There should be no doubt in anyone’s minds that the end of Israeli democracy is nearing its point of no return.

A cabinet formed of religious groups who wish to end secular society, militant extremists, Jewish supremacists, and corruption enthusiasts will have no intention to relegate power.

The destruction of Israeli institutions is the current project. The end of a free press, of a professional police force, of an independent judiciary, and a competent military leadership are all the orders of this stage.

The second intifada ended the left in Israel. This war has ended the center. In 2026 Israelis will be asked to pick between theocratic illiberalism or militant kleptocracy. The notion that somehow these people will willingly transfer power is ridiculous.

  3. Before everyone gets their panties in a twist this what is actually happening:

    >The proposal, put forward by communications minister Shlomo Kar’i, will end government advertising in the newspaper and cancel all subscriptions for state employees and employees of state-owned companies.

The government is boycotting Haaretz, it’s not imposing legal sanctions.

The government is under no obligation to pay for advertising in a newspaper, nor is it required to purchase that newspaper.

Karhi and the government are slippery shits, but they legally can’t actually *sanction* Haaretz because Haaretz have not broken the law. If Haaretz had they would have got the Al Jazeera treatment, being shut down and blocked from reporting in Israel.

  4. Ofc it’s Haaretz, the best and most prestigious newspaper

Israël continuing to harass and try to silence the best amongst “the only democracy of the Middle-east”™.
