It’s long past time for Democrats to be more ruthless than Republicans without sinking to their level of dishonesty.
Throw some goddamn elbows.
New Republic is literally the only media organization doing journalism that isn’t carrying water for fascism
Never understood why they were in it. It’s like they thought they would wake up one morning and the republicans would have stopped lying and cheating
Overnight. They’re like a little brother who can be fooled over and over again ?
But….I remember they always love us when we do what they want and we move the country to their side! It’s worked so well for 80 years! Why won’t they just let us have what we want?
—what i hear every time a democrat advocates reaching across the aisle.
It doesn’t exist anymore. Hasn’t in many years and the electorate couldn’t give 2 shits about it.
DNC: we’re only comfortable running *with* Republicans. Because fuck America.
Maybe doing things like plainly attacking the right with simple “they are weird” pushes, which was working well and building a narrative and then veering wildly off the rails to sideline your attack dog VP choice in favor of fucking Liz Chaney and coming together with those weirdo Republicans and hugging wasn’t a great plan.
The time for this was ten fucking years ago.
The Democratic leadership has known only capitulation, pre-compromise, compromise for its own sake, and attacking their putative allies (while supporting their enemies) to prove how they’re willing to make the “hard choices” for 40 years. The leadership is constitutionally unsuited to do what’s necessary to oppose the neo-fascist threat.
We desperately need new leadership at the top. The Schumers, Pelosis, and all the other Blue Dogs, Third Wayers, DLCers, New Democrats, Clintonistas, Obamacrats, No Labelers, and the rest have all got to go. Can you imagine what things would look like if the top of the party were people AOC, Sanders, Tlaib, Cori Bush, and Omar instead of the band of neo-fascist enablers we’ve had all these years?
There can and should be zero compromise or cooperation with the monsters across the aisle. Zero. Given the situation we’re in, that is the absolute bare minimum we should expect from our leaders.
He’s going to send the DoJ after some of them.
That will be the “then they came for the xyz” moment for the Dems.
They better figure out this shit fast.
Absolutely, you can’t deal with the devil.
Bipartisanship is good as a means to an end. The problem is Democrats think it’s an end unto itself.
How many Democrats sell themselves as willing to work across the aisle with little regard for what actual reforms are achieved by doing so?
Republican Senators ditched bipartisanship when they voted to acquit Trump during his first impeachment.
All binpartinship does is comprise the democratic position. This is because the GOP never ever ever moves to the center. They haven’t moved in that direction in the 24 years I have been following politics. What this points to, though, is the GOP commitment to
1) The positions
2) maintaining their power
3) a combo of the two.
What it also says about the Dems is that they have a much less firm commitment to their suppsed ideals.
Or, more simply put, the dems need to grow a backbone and stand for something of real substance for once.
The House should not bail out Moses Mike Johnson …if he doesn’t have the support, or if he can’t control his MAGA caucus then he fails…the more he fails to deliver Trumps bullshit directives the better off we’ll be.
Democrats are empathetic and independent. That’s a tough combination when you’re asking them to be selfish and unified. The party is done. Independents will be the way forward.
Time for some real moves. Stop playing nice! Geez! 🙄
I want 2nd term Obama era level of opposition. Do not support DJT on literally anything.
Absolutely. Until(if ever) Republicans decide they want to govern, to work for their constituents, instead of rule over them, Democrats need to treat the Republicans as the enemy, because they are.
You can’t work in a bipartisanship way in a democracy with a political party that is anti-democracy.
Agreed. Enough of this kumbaya bullshit. Be ruthless. Politics is hardball. Stop bringing good intentions to a political knife fight.
Been saying this for as long as I can remember. We meet republicans further to the right of the middle every single fucking time
The media always asks Democrats is they have Republican support for legislation. The never ask Republicans if they have any support from Democrats.
Pretend to be bipartisan then block the bills because they’ll make Trump look good. Isn’t that how Republicans operate?
I disagree. Bipartisanship is already at an all time low in this country and it’s not working.
I need the current generation of Chuck Shumer democrats to fucking go. They play with Moscow mitch too much and it never works
It’s not about bipartisanship, it’s about pleasing rich donors.
They compromise out of necessity to please the wealthy who fund our elections. That is why the Republicans don’t compromise, they don’t have to. They dismantled unions and divided the electorate with wedge issues. There’s no reason to work with the left they have all the power they need on the right. They have the money and the media, with that they can win.
It is amazing to me that they didn’t get out of it when Trump literally tried to have them murdered in a coup. It’s like they lack a survival instinct.
It’s too late.
Lucy won’t pull the football this time, guys, come on.
By the time you realize its an issue, its far too late.
We’ve all been saying this for 8 years…
Democrats can’t do it because they go to the same cocaine and blood orgies that the Republicans do.
In other news, it’s time to close the barn door now that all the horses have escaped.
Unilateral adherence to decorum is killing the democrats
