1. This is excellent news.
   I don’t believe landbased operators should pay less though. They see the damage they cause in real time, to real people. They’re just as bad, and all gambling operators should pay for the harm they cause.

2. They need to add another zero to that figure – £100m is chicken-feed to the gambling industry.

4. Total gross gambling yield was £15b last year according to the Gambling Commission.

5. That’s 1 percent of the money paid to the gambling industry in the last 12 months in bets. That’s pathetic. That’s a sweetener from the industry that was threatened with tax increases worth nearly 1 billion a year before the government backed out. These figures are based on companies that make excellent use of every available loophole to pay as little tax as possible compared to the profits they are making.

6. Most people are using websites based in god knows what country. I don’t think labour will do much there.

8. While you’re at it, ban them from advertising. Especially advertising like they offer the most fun activity you can possibly have.

14. They should tax them hard on advertising too or ban it outright. Every other ad on YouTube is from some betting company and there’s loads of them. it’s no wonder people get addicted, It’s literally being shoved down their throats, pay £10 get £30 free ect ect.

    And yes I know adblocks exist but they don’t always work and the sort people who get suckered in by this shit aren’t usually very computer literate

16. I completely understand the desire to hammer these reprobates out of existence, but hear me out.

    I remember over the summer hearing about the ‘scandal’ of staff at 10 Downing Street placing bets on the date of the next election and didn’t quite understand the fuss. It was the first time I’d ever felt sympathy for a Tory. They knew something the bookies didn’t, and they monetised it without anyone innocent losing out. As far as I was concerned, it was the bookies’ fault for offering odds on something that someone would obviously be aware of before them at some point. They knew this and took the risk anyway.

    So allow gambling, but deregulate it to the point that cheating is effectively legal.

    Premier League footballer wants to bet on the time of the first throw in, then proceeds to hoof it into the stand from kick-off? Enjoy your winning big lad.

    Card counter wants to rinse a casino for all they have? Fill your boots rain man.

    These firms are an absolute scourge on society. Leeches who feed off often desperate people and who literally provide no benefits to society.

    Should be one of the highest taxed industries in the UK. It’s no surprises that many of the numerous gambling firms HQd in Jersey, who operate in the UK have legit ties to multiple organised crime groups from across the globe.

23. The amount of gambling adverts I get on YouTube is insane. I don’t even gamble so hardly their target audience.

24. Can we totally ban advertising it as well? It never ceases to amaze me that it’s allowed when I see a gambling ad.

25. The UK have screwed the average punter with all the taxes and restrictions on bonuses. The RTP of most slot machines are now lower than ever and the 100% bonuses with semi decent wagering requirements are long gone. 

    Even the welcome bonuses which is basically the only thing left are terrible in comparison to what they used to be. Your money just lasts way less time now, taxing further just screws the punter more.
