> In an interview for the new ITV documentary Her Majesty The Queen: Behind Closed Doors, the actor said, “Domestic violence was something that people never spoke about. And so I never told anyone. I kept it all to myself. It was locked inside me, and I felt shame,” per U.K. newspaper The Times.
> Speaking about his own experienced, Stewart, 84, recalled, “The war ended in 1945. So I was, by the time my father came home, 6 years old. And it was horrifying.”
> “The shouting was so loud because he had a huge voice,” continued the Star Trek: The Next Generation alum, adding that he “would scream at my father to stop when he hit my mother and hit her again and again.”

such a hard thing to live through, yet it affects so very, very many
I highly recommend his memoir.. Making it so. Good Christmas gift
Edit: sharing from another post.. audiobook is on Spotify
hes SUCH a nice person.
The pain we endure, helps build us as a person just as all the good moments we endure. Everyone has their own struggles, some similar to each other, and some handle it differently. The pain I’ve felt in life, I would still want that if I had a chance to do it over because I’m in love with who I am. I still have good and bad moments to come and I look forward to learning from them.
So sad to hear about it.
I first heard about his experiences in his episode of [Who Do You Think You Are](https://youtu.be/OhMHrsgrtfc?si=U9HHiC1vvfhcQBKR) – so much respect to him for pulling the curtain back on his growing up with domestic violence
He has talked about that quite a bit in the past. He’s obviously still processing some real trauma.
It’s amazing because he seems to be such a gentle person. That had to have been a deliberate effort on his part to teach himself how to break that cycle.
