  1. I see no downsides to this.
It won’t exactly break the bank (adding £35 to the bill for a 7 night stay for a family of 4) and should funnel much needed monies into public infrastructure

  2. Wales is catching up with other countries on this, about time.

  3. In the past year I’ve visited Paris, Rome and the Hague and they all have this. London have also been talking about introducing it. Seems pretty standard and makes a lot of sense.

  4. Most places I regularly go on holiday have something like a daily charge per person or a nightly charge per room. Those places also tend to take increasingly good care of their infrastructure as time goes on. Depending on what kind of place you stay at, you might not be contributing all too much to the local economy unless you go out every day for meals and pay for all sorts of activities, so it’s a nice way to support the use of systems that need to be able to serve both locals and tourists reliably.

  5. I don’t see a problem with this tax at such a low rate. However the Senedd will definitely start cranking that dial as they always do.

The only reason these towns in West and North West wales still exist is tourism. Almost all other industry has long gone. All the youth leave as soon as they get a chance and never come back.

If they bump the price of a holiday in Wales up to parity with flying literally anywhere else In the world then that industry will go away in a snap. It’s pissing down here, it always is.

If that one remaining industry goes you will be left with a few thousand pensioners and no one to care for them.

It’s such a big problem that the Senedd is looking into slashing income tax in the area in the hope of bringing some youth back

  6. So soon after the tourist industry was crushed by covid , talk about kick a dog when he’s down ?

  7. Seems very modest, but I imagine someone is complaining somewhere.

  8. I’ve argued for years there should be a tourist tax. It should come in sooner than 2027 tho.

  9. As a regular visitor to Wales I have no issue with this. If it goes directly to the accommodation it’s a great little boost to keep them in business.
