Hi guys! Just found out some epic pictures of one of the first computers created in Latvia.

All software inside were created by Mr. Janis Čaupals (Mana puiša tēvs) during the years 1979 – 1981, while he worked in VEF.

  1. VEF would have definetly have overtaken Apple, but CIA didnt allow it.

Awesome stuff, honestly, didnt know about this PC.

  2. Yeah, saw this one in VEF kultūras pils – it’s exposed there, anyone can go and check it out, albeit it’s not turned on. I actually got curious now by seeing these pics, what are the specs, here’s some detailed info in russian I found: [https://www.phantom.sannata.org/viewtopic.php?t=21993](https://www.phantom.sannata.org/viewtopic.php?t=21993)

Looks like it has IPM-80A (a [Z80A](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zilog_Z80) clone) CPU and 64KB of RAM.

It would be interesting to find out more about the OS it was running – looks like something called RV-VEF (РВ-ВЭФ).

  4. A tēvocis of mine worked in VEF and told about the hardware side – they were purchasing US-made chips and trying to reproduce something similar after carefully dismantling and investigating newly bought CPUs, layer by layer. It got next to impossible when closer to independence due to smaller component sizes.
