🚨🥀 SNP’s Stephen Flynn called out a Labour minister for backing policies which “go after the poorest in society” live on the BBC: “This is exactly what the UK establishment does. It goes after the poorest in society instead of addressing the big fundamentals in the UK economy — austerity & brexit”

  1. You have extra money to help the poorest in Scotland, if his answer to having a discussion about getting people on benefits back to work is this argument then I cant help but laugh really. I agree they are most likely the poorest but all he’s saying is good PR Speech. Funny that Brexit was mentioned here but people like him will ignore the costs of Scotland leaving the UK.

I hate people who claim to care about the poorest but then are fine with hurting the poorest to get Independence.

  2. They are not the fundamentals, though. The fundamentals are far deeper, long running issues in which Brexit and Austerity are simply symptoms of.

  3. Except the aren’t the fundamentals

The fundamental is we don’t generate enough tax to pay for our public spending and labour are determined to make that situation worse

Austerity 😂 public spending has never been higher

Flynn, from a party that has given Scotland the highest deficit in the EU that he wanks about every night, even though only 19% of Scotlands trade was with the EU pre Brexit

  4. What on earth is he talking about? The SNP has historically cut more and spent less in their budgets for years. Like that time they were sending back hundreds of millions of pounds back the Westminster. The SNP should shut the hell up until they can get their own stuff fixed like that drug overdose rate. I’ve been screwed by the Scottish civil service so many times, throughout my life and to hear this idiot talk about Labour (who I also don’t like) like they’re the Tories is a bloody disgrace. I’m so done with Nationalists doing nothing and complaining when someone else does anything, and as for “targeting the poorest”, the SNP has had the ability to raise small taxes on the wealthiest and refused to do it for years. If you’re thinking “the Scottish government can’t do that”, they can, it’s part of the act that gives us the parliament in the first place. They’ve just chosen not to do it out of “fear” that it would drive rich people away, the absolute cowards.

  5. Zero chance of growing economy outside of EU.

Of course with wealth inequality of UK good chance that wouldn’t make any difference.

  6. We voted for Brexit and there is absolutely nothing to be done about it in the short term, other pitiful bleating. Which happens to be Flynn’s specialty.

  7. You have to have some sanctions else people will take the piss

**HOW** you sanction is as important

Using a broad percentage is useless when dealing with individuals. That’s why the current/previous system was almost and example of malicious compliance. If you make it that a Job centre staffer must sanction X as a metric, two things will occur

    * Monday mornings will be hell, as they try to find X to have an eas week
    * Friday afternoons will be hell as they try to find any missing number (X – found)

What you want to find **& give extra support** to is the harder / more complex cases but **that costs money** and if the idea is make savings you won’t be able to do it.

  8. Sadly the reality remains that if you’re poor in Scotland you’re going to die earlier, be more likely to die from drug addiction, earn less and receive a worse education than your counterparts in England.

If Stephen Flynn’s friends in the Scottish Government can sort that out, then maybe he can start hectoring others. It takes more than a benefits top-up for people with children.

  9. Love how Jo Coburn breezily says “so you’d have no sanctions”. Same kind of lazy mentality that sees it easier to lock people up (despite prisons failing to reduce crime) and the idea that people are poor just because they are just not deserving.

Beyond words how much I loathe that individual – I stopped watching the show years ago because of her lazy questioning and imperious attitude.

Along with Laura Kunsesberg and Adam Fleming – piss poor reporting by BBC.

  10. Some of laziest bastards you’ll ever meet are at work. The false dichotomies around this subject are brutal. You see it walking past bins every day where people beg and pick up cigarette ends

  11. Isn’t the post independence SNP plan just Brexit and austerity II?

Leave your largest trade partner and then try and join the EU, which requires new members to demonstrate they can adhere to its SGP, ie austerity.

The problems in the UK, and Scotland, are a lot deeper than austerity and brexit.

  12. SNP: Let’s blame it all on Brexit.

    SNP’s independence plan: Turbo-Mega-Brexit.
