A school near where I live in Louth has made all the new bollards look like pencils!
Felt it was a really nice touch and thought we could do with something positive round here.

  1. Saw that in Dublin last year. Thought it was a brilliant way to highlight a school zone.

  2. I saw bollards like this for the first time during Covid and they made me so happy. I like the creativity!

  3. Write in to your local council to let them know you like them. They look awesome hopefully they put some in my area soon

  4. How long before one of those Ireland First cunts shows up to protest rainbow bollards.

  5. Very nice! I used to walk along there when I lived there.

  6. I like the vibrant colours rather than the drab black paint which just brings a bleakness. This kinda gives an area a bit of life.

  7. All the schools in Dublin do it. It’s a nice and quick reminded kids could run out on to the road so drive carefully.

  8. They are very nice! I hope they put more like that!

  9. I have some of these by me too! Honestly makes me smile every time I see it

  10. Riddle me this. What’s the cost on these?

Based on figures on current government projects etc: €10,000 a pencil?

    Sound about right?

  11. My first thought was “ugly colours” but this is a good idea around a school. A visual cue to let people know to drive carefully and fun for the kids.

One kid will definitely try to chew the rubber though. There’s always one.

  12. They have these in Cobh! Very cheerful and makes drivers more aware

  13. There’s a few of these due to be installed near me, glad to see it’s so widespread

  14. They look lovely i agree but you can bend them with your hand, wouldn’t offer much protection

  15. Fun fact: the French for bollard is *une bite* which is also the slang word for a penis.

  16. Themed bollards are a great idea, outside hospitals we can have thermometer shaped bollards, outside a Garda station, truncheon shaped bollards, etc.

  17. a great idea. and they stop dickheads from parking on the pavement

  18. They’ve been installing these around Dublin schools the last few years and have been a mostly huge success in keeping school zones clear. Glad to see they’re rolling them out.

  19. This is part of the Safer to Schools Schemes. It’s actually great
