  1. Kazakhstan has the same problem as Ukraine. By sending troops to Ukraine, it would basically tell Russia that it can do the same to it afterwards.

  2. Yeah, I did notice the Central Asians abstained in the UNGA vote on ending the war (Turkmenistan not even showing up). Of course, that isn’t the same as a yes vote, but it is nonetheless striking for states known to be heavily under the influence of Moscow.

  3. I wonder if Kazakhstan is about to apply for EU membership? After Georgia and Moldova. This week it is a different world now, after all.

  4. Weakening of Russian influence and growing of China’s through Belt and Road financing or economic hubs.

    Intersection of interests where Vlad can also find a reason to lash out, if he survives this Ukrainian turmoil, that is.
