Luxembourg’s three official languages explained [OC]

  1. Surprised at how often french is spoken in luxembourg city compared to German. I’m a newbie though so maybe that’s just the way it is

  2. Meme is wrong, government continues to promote Luxembourgish above all. However French is by far the most frequently used language thanks to big French immigration and high amount of French and Wallon crosboard workers

  3. It sure makes sense to have our laws in French as they are based on the code napoleon and Luxembourgish simply isn’t a language precise enough for law but for the daily life I think it isn’t great at all that many things are centered around French.
Unfortunately many French speaking people show an unwillingness to even try to speak
    Luxemburgish or any other language.

I generally avoid speaking French as much as possible.

  4. Idk why there is so much hatred towards french. Let’s accept these three languages as official languages and that’s it. Luxembourgish is not so easy to learn and doesn’t have much value outside lux. Even today you can get by in french in every store. Let people who want to learn learn it! I like learning languages a lot so I don’t mind. But let’s be practical.

  5. Moien,

OK so the comments here seems like meme too:

On one hand we have people from the country proud of it and willing to see their dialect spoken more often (which I understand).

On the other we have the workforce that come in the country (mutual benefit not only for their pay wages), majority is French speaking and thus bring loads of French dialogue into the economy plus the fact that a lot of people in the country speak it and always do the effort instead of fhecn speaking people.

On third the Germans, forgotten in the comment section too.

Have a nice wk end fellas

    Eddi.
