Britain could expel all Russian citizens from the UK, senior Conservative MP says

  1. This is absolute madness; Russians are not Putin, Putin is not Russia.

Maybe I’m being naïve, but Tom Tugendhat should really know better than to make suggestions of this nature…

  2. It’s just deranged misguided sabre rattling. I’m pretty sure they can’t just go around revoking indefinite leave to remain status. Even revoking visas would be dodgy as. He’s not even just some swivel eyed backbencher – he’s the chair of the foreign affairs select committee.

  3. I’m not sure sending people back to a war is a great idea.

Expel all the diplomats that spew stupid rhetoric like ‘this is a military operation, not a war’ but the average Russia should just be left alone.

  4. Hope they don’t, they had nothing to do with invading Ukraine and it’s not like they’re going to go home and overthrow Putin

  5. Utter cruel stupidity at its finest.

Yeah this was what I was worried about. We can’t allow politicians like Tugendhat to exploit this war and draw up harmful Anti-Russian sentiments.

The Russian people aren’t Putin. They aren’t responsible for this war, and I imagine a lot of them hold no love for him.

Only those involved in his regime are to blame. His attempts at trying to whip up anti-Russian hysteria to feather your own nest is only going to end with more innocent people hurt.

  6. Highly divisive thing to say but appeals to the correct demographic. The type of troll a Russian cyber farm would come up with.

  7. We’re not there yet.
But if Russia comes into direct conflict with NATO.
We will have to question all Russian nationals and assess their security risk. Many will likely be deported.

  8. This is stupid! They’re never going to do that…they just talk shit all the time. Plus they don’t give a shit about Ukraine, it was the distraction they needed from Party Gate – which escalated the situation, they shouldn’t have been anywhere near the negotiation table – Truss didnt even know what continent she was in!

  9. Kick them out, or they can stay if they renounce their Russian nationality status and become a full UK tax paying citizen.

  10. We should be doing the opposite. Attracting Russian talent who want to escape their autocratic government.

It will do far more damage to Russia that way.

  11. How about expelling our US born Russian funded Prime Minister? His only objective is to damage the UK on Vladimir Putin’s behalf.

  12. Isn’t this pure distraction from their refusal to act against Russia while accepting millions in donations from them?

  13. A generous reading of this it to say we can expel any of them and we shouldn’t make any excuses to target individuals, known spies, oligarchs, supporters of the regime etc…

But yeah these comments are idiotic and harmful. I don’t think we even expelled all German citizens in WW2. and he’s one of the more sane tories too.

I’m sure the Russian state propaganda machine will take such a generous and measured reading of his comments…
