Two Russians drove up in front of the Polish Consulate General building in Irkutsk and tried to remove Polish and EU flags from the balcony. – They were unsuccessful,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Łukasz Jasina tells Wirtualna Polska. The consul has already filed a complaint with the Russians.
Irkutsk is located in the southeastern part of Russia and is over 5,000 kilometers from Moscow. The Consulate General of the Republic of Poland has been operating in the city for many years. On Thursday morning, its building was attacked by two Russians. Łukasz Jasina, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, spoke to Wirtualna Polska about the details of the incident.
It was morning local time (Warsaw and Irkutsk are seven hours apart). The visa department of the Consulate General had just opened and then it was noticed that a lift vehicle had pulled up in front of the building. There were two men in it,” reports Jasina.
“At some point the basket began to lift and the men got to the area of the balcony on which Polish and European Union flags are hung. First they tried to take down the EU flag, then ours. However, they were prevented from doing so,” adds the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson.
It is now known that two Russians were responsible for the incident. – One claimed to be a government employee, the other to be a representative of a social organization. However, the men did not give their data. The consul has already reacted to what happened and has filed an extensive complaint with the Russians,” reveals Jasina.
According to Wirtualna Polska, a police patrol also arrived at the scene. However, the officers did not intervene. – The policemen were just watching the whole event,” comments the MFA spokesperson.
It’s time to start a special operation in order to install Polish flag on a Kremlin.
