Gisele Pelicot, the French woman drugged by her ex-husband so she could be raped and sexually abused by him and dozens of strangers, said on Tuesday that it was time for a “macho” society to change its attitude on rape. Pelicot has become a feminist icon by refusing to be ashamed and demanding the trial be open to the public to raise awareness about the use of drugs to commit sexual abuse.

  3. The defendants should not be permitted to hide their faces. They are in court facing charges. Giselle has to be in court to refute their self-serving lies and excuses – they should be seen. She should be able to look them in the eye while she testifies.

  6. I can't imagine the hurt of finding out about such a betrayal. And I can't comprehend the behaviour of those men. The world doesn't owe you sexual satisfaction, there are things that you simply don't do, if you are a decent man.

  7. That is so horrific. I wondered if he had been selling films of it also. That is a common aspect of this type of crime in Asia (and elsewhere). She is very brave.

  9. Surely we all want these men to be as far from “humanity” as possible. That's why we pathologize them as narcissists, call them evil and even portray them as monsters. But that's always been the problem. It is precisely this alienation that helps them. As we can see in this process, most of them are normal men with families, jobs, etc. This is exactly the view that we as a society should spread because it is the truth. We must recognize that rapists are no different from any other men you and I know. Until their actions reveal who they really are, we remain in the dark and hope that our counterpart is not one of these rapists. As sad and scary as it is we cannot spot them beforehand.

    They shouldn't allow the men to hide their faces. Let everyone know and leave the poor woman alone.

    It's beyond ridiculous they still keep on calling her to testify. It's obvious that the justice system is not on the victim's side
