Anybody considering volunteering ?
🇺🇦 President @ZelenskyyUa announced formation of a new unit — the International Legion of Territorial Defense of Ukraine. He appealed to foreigners who want to help #Ukraine to #StopRussianAggression 💪🏻

Unless you have military training and are willing to die for Ukraine – don’t be an idiot
You will be on the front lines immediately
To to be perfectly honest, anyone who goes out there that has neither military training or physical capability is going to be less of an asset and more of a liability.
Let me just ask the wife, see what she thinks.
Doesn’t this seem a bit … mad?
No I will change my profile photo instead.
No chance. As much as I’m rooting for the people of Ukraine there is no way I’d be willing to die for this war. If it was in Ireland I might feel differently.
Fairly moot point anyway. As an unfit, untrained man in my 30s I’d probably do more good if I volunteered on the Russian side.

I asked the wife and she offered to pay airfare, so I asked the dog and he motioned no…
UK sending over *”mercs”…….LoL*
S.A.S incoming.
Shhhh they are mercs now. 😉
This is pretty mental to say the least. I wouldn’t travel to Ukraine to fight, no. But if the unthinkable happens and war spreads to Europe, we may be left with little choice.
This type of unit will surely attract the biggest idiots in the world. Hard to see how it wouldn’t just be a liability.
It opens things up for governments who have skin in the game, to have boots on the ground in a volunteer capacity. Also paid mercenaries. No countries just volunteers.
Seen quite a few Irish folk planning to over on r/VolunteersForUkraine. I do admire the willingness to help defend Ukraine in its hour of need. I pray they all get home in one piece.
Honestly, I’d be a liability I refuse to wear my glasses to read subtitles watching TV You don’t want me with a gun in my hands Still, grateful for any former military who are heading over to give a hand Many hands, light work and hopefully the sooner the Russians pack up and go home, the sooner the Ukrainian ms can rebuild their homes
It crossed my mind. Id definitely end up dead, which was a strong argument for me not going. But let’s say Irish Men did start going and I knew of some volunteering, I think there’s a chance that I would.
Id be mostly useless if I’m being honest.
It’s only in relatively recent European experience that foreign volunteers aren’t a fairly common part of conflict.
The international brigades during the Spanish civil war are probably the most famous recentish example here in Europe but there were other examples in Africa and Middle East not so long ago.
The French foreign legion is of course probably the most famous of these – who knows maybe in a few decades time the Ukrainian foreign legion will be the go-to example.
Will putting a Ukrainian Flag round your profile pic on Facebook not do more good?
I’m fairly surprised at the negative response here given how idolised the volunteers for the Spanish Republic are among the crowd of /r/ireland
I wasn’t planning on dying any time soon, so no. Best of luck to those brave souls who do though.
Oh, and fuck Putin.
