Holy crap actual usage if the super tucano. Interesting plane and good cost for nations like nigeria going up against adverseries with few AA options
An A29 is obviously not going to be like an A-10 or anything, however it can still do the job and definitely effective when the opposition has barley any anti air weapons.
My squadron CO, he said to me “You’re gonna leave your 16D”
“And go to fly where propellers swing, learn how slow-movers do their thing”
And so I went to Maiduguri, their AFE sergeant he howled with glee
“You ain’t gonna need this” he said and laughed, and took away my oxygen mask
These guys are crazy, they’re all insane
They fly their prehistoric planes
From a shrublands airfield where the lions roar
At Maiduguri by the Ngadda shore
The Embraer driver, he said to me
“Why try to hit what you can’t see?”
Then he rolled in from four thousand feet
And pulled out damn near in the trees
These guys are crazy, with balls of brass
They’ll use their prop to chop IS ass
They’ll root around down among the trees
Then fly on back to Maiduguri
In an A-29, o’er the white hot sands
We found a convoy near a doum palm stand
We nailed the lead truck and dropped their morale
Then strafed the next one with fifty cal.
These guys are crazy, they have no fear
They live on jet fuel, cordite and beer
They’ll fly them back, shot full of holes
To Maiduguri where the Ngadda flows
Then I went back to JNGB, to my oxygen mask and my 16D
And to my CO later that day, gave my report, and to him did say
“These guys are crazy, they’ve come unhinged, their whole damn life’s a flying fighting binge”
“And I’m damn glad that I got to see how the slow-movers live at Maiduguri.”
Put a siren on it.
Megaprojects recently made a video about the A29 Super Tucano. Quite a capable aircraft for the role it was made for.
