  1. Mate if it’s stupid and it works, it’s not stupid.

    It’s genius.

  2. Depends how slippery the egg is. You wouldn’t want to lose it between the pot and the plate!

  3. I think you’d be an idiot if you tried to put the egg in with that.

  4. No, I flatted with a chef years ago and he showed me this 👍

  5. Gonna try this, seems easier to get in and under them in a deep pan of water than a slotted spoon. Genius OP

  6. Omg. I’d never of thought lol… I’m gonna start doing this.

  7. OH MY GOD! You are my eggy soulmate or something lol. I’ve always done this and it works well.

  8. You could but trad slotted spoon works better. Does the same but also prevents egg from sliding due to domed shape and keeps you hand safe as you don’t need to have it steamed over boiling water.

  9. I use a tea strainer as it drains better than a slotted spoon

  10. I’ve been known to use a spiky spaghetti serving thing before

  11. If it works. I use a potato masher to help cook mince, it crushes the big clumps better. Potato masher – surprisingly versatile.

  12. Amen brother. Mine is a single legged hook shaped masher. Works a treat for poaching fish.

  13. It’s what I do, so whatever the answer is, there’s a least 2 of us.

  14. I do this. It is easy to drain and to serve the egg. I think a slotted spoon might be more controllable for both functions… I’ll try that next time.

  15. I use the cling film method.

Cling film pushed into cup, rub some butter around the inside, crack the egg in, twist the cling film closed, place it in the boiling water.

  16. My fave poached egg hack is to immerse the fresh eggs in boiling water for about 1 min first. Then crack and poach in a pan. Presoaking them makes the whites hold and you get less strands etc

  17. Wait, how do you actually use the potatoe masher?
