  2. I kinda feel like at times the west might have fucked up a bit.

    Overall we have done well in supporting Ukraine but the problem i think is that when the Russians where at their weakest we didn’t pile on support for Ukraine. I know its always been a support/escalation balance but i do think at times if we had given them for example long range weapons sooner or delivered other support earlier on then the frontlines would be look more in Ukraine’s favour.

  4. This has been the most consistant leader in modern day politics. He has stuck by Ukraine from the start of this war and now 1000+ days. He has created Ukranian identity in the minds of westerners where we didn’t have an idea of Ukraine before the war.

    I hope the war ends as they predict – Ukraine will ceed some land, but be able to join Nato, shutting down Russias western conquest.

    A MAJORITY OF THE MONEY WE ARE ALLOCATING TO UKRAINIAN AID GOES RIGHT BACK INTO THE AMERICAN ECONOMY.

    Lend lease is good for the US. We are selling surplus arms and giving Ukraine credit to buy from AMERICAN manufacturers.

    All of this while crushing the economy of one of our biggest rivals. It is a win-win-lose. Yes, it is costing the US money in the short-term, but we can take the hit and will be significantly better off for it.

    I don’t expect people that don’t understand tariffs to comprehend this though.

  10. NATO has said they have the money but not the production capacity. The west didn’t have stockpiles of Soviet era equipment and needed time to build supply chains and production capacity.

  12. We’re in for a quarter trillion so far and they’re losing.  Ask yourself how much it would take to win, then ask yourself if we’re willing to pay that much. And we’re on the other side of the planet.  If it really was such an emergency Europe would be helping out a hell of a lot more.

  14. I think it’s a matter of logistics. Politicians are also very bad at logistics as they don’t have any real world experience. I recall Obama claiming that the US would be 90% off fossil fuels in like 15 years. I mean that would be great but I was like wow this guy is really smart but no way that’s happening just from the logistics. Even now people think it’s just a matter of will and spew all this anomosity, and think just because their party got elected everything will change in 4 years, and when has that ever happened? It all goes back to what nations have been doing for decades. Most of the EU policy prioritizes what their voters want. In a lot of ways it’s not much different than the US. This all led to Europe spending more on social programs and spend less on defense and rely on NATO membership as defense. And even with Obama he wasn’t jumping feet first into war with Russia over the Crimea. Now I think most people just want to hate Trump and use that as an excuse to do nothing, because it’s just about elitism blaming the other party instead of understanding logistics.

  20. Probably doesn’t help that all the conscript are dropping like flies after less than a month of training.

    Pick any western country you want and have them donate their entire artillery stock to Ukraine… it would last a grand total of maybe a year or longer. Western military doctrine is not prepared for this kind of war and that’s why Russia will continue to have over 10 times the artillery Ukraine does. No amount of technobeat drone footage or storm shadow strikes is going to win this war for the poor bastards in a trench. “Zelensky also said the control over the situation in the east of Ukraine is solely dependant on these brigades.” couldn’t have been more accurate.

    Let me add that one of the biggest problems with this war is dumping money into a post-soviet state with minimal oversight. We practically dumped fuel on Ukraines corruption problem.

I was watching Charlie Wilson’s War clips on Youtube and while talking about Afghanistan with Phillip Seymore Hoffman’s character (CIA) , it sounded similar to Ukraine in the sense that they were saying they weren’t trying to defeat Russia in Afghanistan by giving them what they need to win quickly, they were trying to bleed them dry at the expense of Afghanistan (or Ukraine now).
