You can thank Russia’s dirty money for that and the lowlife that’s representing his interests – the Tories.
Im in a lucky position that my gf and I have managed on one salary and hopefully she gets a job soon. We aren’t in danger as such but these new rises have pushed my single salary over the edge so im now losing.
We have the heating on for two hours in the morning. Im currently working in my living room with thermal trousers and top on under my clothes, hood up and a blanket over my lap.
We’ve gotten used to being cold and doing what we can to ease the pressure of bills. We mostly have the house in darkness too using phones as torches. In the evening we’ll watch tv on a laptop in bed to keep warm.
This is us and as I say, we’re relatively fortunate. I cant imagine the stress worry and fear of those not so lucky as me. There really is a point where you cant cut any further.
Rent – 1050
Council tax – 178
Bills – 128
Food – 300
Phone – 22
Fuel – 40
Internet – 20
Water – 60
Thats £1800 a month not including any going outside, socialising, subscriptions or any other real luxuries. Thats just stuff weve gotta pay.
We spend more on food because my gf is coeliac and gf products are super expensive and far smaller. Imagine a loaf of bread, half the size and costing £3.
Why dont you move? Believe me we were lucky to find this place.
Fuckin rolling out Brown again. The man who along with Blair continued Thatchers agenda. The pair that started the privatisation of the NHS. The pair that started an illegal war, spending more on that than any social infrastructure projects.
This current administration, lest we forget, just funnelled countless billions into illegal PPE contracts, but can’t find a penny to stop children starving and vulnerable people freezing to death.
The very reason we’re suffering obscene rises in energy, is their ruthless privatisation of all our resources. We’re buying our own gas back on global markets. Production costs might have risen. But we’re paying for private profits and nothing else! It’s no longer currency we’re paying with though, its death and suffering.
Politicians shouldn’t be allowed to take a seat unless they pass a test. Live in their proposed constituency on the average wage of the people they allegedly represent, with no savings or financial support of any kind. Except a loan for a deposit for housing, thats forcefully taken from their wage. For 6 months. See how many of these spineless degenerates have the fortitude and resilience to survive that.
The guardian published this today alongside a “let’s all get along” polemic from Steve Fucking Baker, climate denier extraordinare and general culture warrior for regressive “anti-woke” conservatism.
“Let’s all get along” from the man who consistently votes against helping anyone other than the corporate shareholders in his constituency (voted for the UC cut, voted against feeding the starving children, voted against UBI, voted to increase NI….) and has never once done anything in his life to care about anyone earning less than £1million – and he expects us to believe that he’s “worried about his poorest constituents affording the climate crisis”?
This guy is so perpetually full of shit the smell follows him wherever he goes. He is the worst kind of cynic – one who believes everyone else is a fucking idiot. Like we don’t see who he is.
This man is a fucking disgrace and should never have been allowed to take office, let alone have a hand in decisions which decide the parameters of other people’s lives.
It’s like personal responsibility isn’t a thing anymore…
When the government is not interested in helping the poor, only blaming them for being poor, what do you expect? Our Victorian attitude towards poverty means that true help never really comes, we have to rely on charity filling in those gaps instead. Too many accept this as the way things are, instead of questioning why it is supposedly up to ordinary people to fill in the gaps the government have created.
Can’t wait to see those Oxfam ads that say £2 a month can feed a starving British child😂 can’t expect much from a country with such a dense and submissive population.
Poverty to this degree also impacts higher up socially-speaking. Although of course in that case they aren’t destitute but they sure aint spending…
And the lack of spending, other than on essentials, must have a very detrimental impact on the UK economy.
Got another couple of years left of the tory cunts.
You can’t keep voting for the Russian funded Conservative Party for decades and expect there to not be consequences. They’ve torn the arse out of the country, again.
If Corbyn were in power:
a) All the Brexit problems would have been HIS fault
b) Although food banks, homelessness and poverty are now a thing of the past, this has cost the UK taxpayer a full £10 a year extra (pssst, whisper it ever so quietly: thats if you earned no less than £80k per annum)
c) All TEN covid deaths were attributable to HIM
d) Corbyn caused Russia to invade Ukraine
e) Feeling sick after a particularly heavy night on the booze? Then there really is only one person to blame now isn’t there?
Etc Etc Etc
The tories and their propaganda media would have been incessant. Because their thick, gullible, ever so pompous voting public, would have gobbled this sort of shit up by the spade full. And then add some.
A tiny tiny part of me is almost glad he never got in. The vast VAST majority rest of me just weeps in despair.
Still awaiting the tax hike to pay for restocking the Russian forces via Ukrainian submission.
our heating cost is up to £800/month right now (80p/l for oil heating, unregulated sector, and we are using 1000l in the last month.).
so we’ve turned it off except for bedrooms, since we cannot sustain that cost. Now we wear four layers, drink hot drinks every so often, and i warm myself every few hours by chopping wood that i scavenged at the weekend. Takes a lot of work to get enough to keep us warm though, a few hours scavenging might have gotten us 4 days worth, once it’s chopped up. And there’s no time to season it, so we won’t get the best heat from it either.
I don’t understand people who say they are more fortunate than most and still have to sit in the dark (not by candle light, cant afford that), have to wear thermals as have no heating on and only eat 1 custard cream per day.
Like wtf are you doing? I have a minimum wage job, am not remotely fortunate and I’m managing just fine.
After paying rent and bills I have less than £150 a month left to cover our food and anything else we need (clothing, toiletries, transport etc) . We have no heating on…luckily my 4 year old doesn’t seem to feel the cold but I do and it is miserable to sit in a dark damp flat feeling cold all the time. Yesterday I got an email to say that my gas bill is going to double from April, electricity is going up, in fact everything is going up. I honestly do not know what we will do so this article doesn’t surprise me at all.
My local food bank also gives free bedding. They’ve done so for as long as they’ve been giving food away which is a while now. Not ideal but nothing new.
Raise some tax, Sunak. There are plenty who can afford to pay more. Fix the country Sunak. Stop pissing about with NI contributions. The population has grown. People are living longer in retirement. These pensioners are crippling NHS resources. Raise the tax. Fix the NHS properly. Poverty causes illness that lands on the NHS. Crappy schools make children ill. Raise the tax and put some serious money into education. All those clever foreigners from the EU have been banned from coming. All our low paid retail, hospitality and “service industry” workers have no more tax to give. Do your job Sunak. Are you hoping to be PM? well turn down the Thatcher small government crap for a decade and repair the damage your party has done with all of Osbornes austerity.
Johnson’s “leveling up” is just empty words without serious changes to the tax system. Close the loopholes, prosecute the tax dodgers & etc & etc
Buckle up then, we still have decades of fallout to come from crashing out of the EU, and the greedy traitors responsible for that have already announced austerity 2: starving pleb boogaloo.
It’s terrifying how bad things would have got if people hadn’t stepped up. This is not normal, we shouldn’t be relying upon emergency humanitarian aid year on year to keep people from starving to death.
This is disgusting. If anyone needs bedding, get in touch, I’ll do what I can to help!
A lot of people are planning to reduce their gas and electricity bill by cutting back. What they do t realise is that the standing charge is being doubled on some tariffs, so even before to turn on a light your bill is going to be higher than ever, and cutting back will barely help.
Until property speculation is banned poverty will keep increasing. Today you need to pay massive deposits of up to £90,000 just to rent a flat in London, what happens in London today always hits the rest of the country tomorrow. All the excess taxes the tories put on landlords, the landlord passes directly to the tenant. Food banks, bedding banks will continue to grow whilst anti homeless measures will increase. It’s so hard even being homeless now, if you sleep in a doorway, the police will wake you up and move you on, homeless people have to find more secluded places to sleep and by doing this they are more vulnerable to violent attacks. So many homeless are woke up to getting their heads kicked in by a passing drunk. This is directly the fault of government. The sad thing is, Starmer won’t be the answer.
