I was underwhelmed by this movie’s pacing. Multiple parts felt appropriate to go to the bathroom and not really have missed much entertainment.
I woulda like a movie just based off Denzel’s character
Word of mouth is going to kill this movie’s lead over Wicked. Everyone is saying that it’s just a reboot of the 2000 original and is just mediocre. Meanwhile, Wicked is crushing it even outside of the theater/musical circles.
It’s Barbenheimer all over again.
Barbie nearly doubled (93% higher) Oppenheimer’s domestic box office ($636 million vs. $329 million) and 25% more internationally ($810 million vs. $645 million).
Meanwhile, Wicked has done 45% more at the box office domestically (US) but Gladiator has tripled the international box office of Wicked, with Gladiator up $50 million overall. I think Wicked has a lot more staying power, especially as we go in to the holiday season.
Worst movie I’ve seen in a decade and I also watched Ridley Scott’s Napoleon…
One thing I believe from the article is Scott finished the film under budget.
Movie was all style and no substance. The use of CGI animals over interesting duels were lazy and uninteresting. Connie Nelson slept through her roles, there were scenes where I felt like she wanted to show emotion, but none was found. The highlight of the film were the beautiful sets, costumes, and that scene with his wife being taken by the Charon-like characters. They even re-used the ending from the first film. It was a dud.
I have one question that will help me decide whether or not to see the film. When I come out of the theatre, will I be high on the feeling that I’m a cool gladiator?
I liked it. it’s not winning any awards, Denzel gave an awesome performance, but I do think it was too rushed in the beginning and during some of the fight scenes, otherwise it wasn’t a horrible film
You know that story that’s going around about the cinematographer that called Ridley lazy? Yeah he’s 100% right, the corner-cutting is *VERY* evident, there’s two scenes that were obviously shot during the daytime but have a *horrible* night filter on-top of them, it’s so bad it makes you do a double take like “no… there’s no way… holy shit, they really just did that”, some of the characters could’ve used some more work, and the CGI animals were really jarring and felt cheap (I know Ridley wanted rhinos in the first one, but they had to replace them with tigers since you can’t really train rhinos like that and the CGI wasn’t good enough at the time, so I feel like that had something to do with it), Paul Mescal does his best but Lucius just isn’t a solid main character, he needs more time in the oven but the movie has so much to say that very few of the characters have the time to reach their full potential
It’s a fun time and a decent popcorn flick, some of the action scenes are well done and it’s always great to see Denzel chew the scenery, but does it stack up as a sequel to Gladiator, one of the best popcorn flicks ever made? No way, not even close. 6.8/10 from me
>! I will say, there is one scene involving Denzel and a severed head that was fucking hilarious !<
They should have just made a two hour “Denzel in Ancient Rome” movie
A lot of people that didn’t like it and maybe it’s cause I went into with rock bottom expectations from how bad I’d heard it was, but I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. Wasn’t the perfect movie but it was way better than Moana 2 as far as too late sequels go. And I really enjoyed the fights. Even the shark one.
I had fun watching it. Nothing award winning about it and the writing wasn’t good but it’s visually stunning and worth the money to go see IMO.
It was the most 6/10 movie I’ve ever seen
Was it as good as the first one? No but I didn’t go in with those expectations. I didn’t mind it at all and really enjoyed Denzels character.
The two emperors seemed like a clown show and there are questions I have about the movie in relation to the ending of the first movie.
I hated Gladiator 2. A cliche cash grab that chokes on the nostalgia from the original.
Saw it last weekend and fell asleep during the first act.
Good. Film was decent. Actually was apprehensive going into the theatre but came out pretty satisfied. It’s a solid entertainer. Not in the level of the first film but still a good enough film on its own.
I was entertained so fuck the haters
I think they missed an opportunity: Gladiator 2: Gladiator Training Day
Movie choices are so bad right now that even a semi decent movie will be a hit.
It was a good fun movie to watch, I wouldn’t say it’s AS good a man the first but it’s a fine and fun film to watch.
Good, quality movie. Denzel really did carry it.
Repackage and resell the masses love the same thing again and again!
Some of the criticism is just straight up bs.
Ill start by saying this is by no means a great film, but it was absolutely a good one. Writing couldve used some work, but i went into it with 0 expectations. Ive seen the original *Gladiator* and have always loved it. I already knew this sequel was not going to be anywhere near as good, but i was pleasantly surprised with how much fun i had.
Most of the people whining about it seemed to have expected way more than they shouldve. I walked into the theater not really taking it all too seriously, as i went with four buddies of mine that were stoked to see another Gladiator film in theaters. We all *genuinely* enjoyed it.
Dont expect an absolute cinematic masterpiece. It really isnt that serious.
I never saw the first one so I had nothing to compare it to, but I liked it and was entertained
Worst music ever, not one single theme or melody just mindless notes (with original songs mixed in)
Pretty sure they hired AI to write the music
It’s boring in comparison to part 1.
