  19. What business is it of the US if other countries want to from their own alliances and stop using the US as their reserve currency? And if we are concerned about this, a tariff is exactly the opposite of what one should do to stop it. Effectively you are saying to these countries “Hey, we get that you want to get off of the dollar because you are concerned the US uses its currency to enforce its worldview on the world, so to encourage you NOT to break the dominance of the dollar, we will use the power of the dollar to beat you into submission”.

    Reality is the US is not the center of the world anymore and we stopped being the manufacturing hub of the world a couple generations ago. We lack the power to really enforce our will on the world and have become a paper tiger.
