CHICO, Calif. – Small business owners in downtown Chico are preparing for the arrival of Small Business Saturday.

Action News Now spoke with multiple business owners in downtown Chico who mentioned how they have had a great start to the holiday shopping season.

Each one has been busy and excited as the holiday season kicked off, with Christmas approaching.

Some businesses gave credit to the Christmas Preview event that took place last week for the great start to local holiday shopping.

Hallie Cockrell, who is the Downtown Supervising Manager for the Little Red Hen, spoke with Action News Now about what shopping local meant to her and her team at their store.

“I get to educate everybody about who we are as a company and what we do,” said Cockrell. Our mission statement is that we employ adults with mental disabilities, intellectual and developmental, and that 100% of the sales go back into programs that we run. So being able to share that mission with the community is very rewarding.”

Many of the business owners Action News Now spoke with in downtown Chico expressed the importance of shopping locally as they put all of their dedication into giving shoppers quality and an experience.

Small Business Saturday takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 30.

The city of Chico has also started the free 2-hour parking in downtown Chico for the holiday season and there will be free parking on the weekends.
