  32. This event has been going on each year for 35 years, since 1990, on the same day. More or less the same people have been organising it. Also each time there’s at least one or two police cars at the location. Also the commemoration takes place on the side of one of the roads with the most traffic in Romania, in broad daylight. But it takes the public and the authorities so long to notice it, even though there are publications and websites that write about it.

    Fun fact: people in Romania like to tie Corneliu Zelea Codreanu to the Iași pogrom, but by then he was dead for almost 3 years. Also, placing the Iron Guard and Russians in the same sentence just amplifies the lack of education that we have, but whatever works.

    Usually people in Romania take their information from shock-loving and fear-inducing sources and that’s why we elected the shady right-wing dude in the first place. The opposing team, these modern self-righteous antifascists are no different, they take whatever scares them and throw it into the cauldron and keep stirring.

    Just saying all this for non-Romanians in order for them to understand our behaviour better. We don’t know how stuff usually works, we are afraid and we act based on our emotions, not reason. Also, I did not vote for CG. Cheers.

  37. As a romanian, the patriotic spark has always shined bright in me. I’ve even gone to the military parade today. It was lovely. Tanks and planes you never get to see in person.

    This isn’t patriotism. This is something else. This is stupidity, ignorance and evil. I got used to the Ceausescu apologetics from the older generations, but I won’t ever accept them and I’ll never tolerate this bullshit.
